I rethink data and tech by providing perspectives from Library and Information Science. Currently I'm writing Fundamentals of Metadata Management (O'Reilly, 2025). It's a book with a completely new architecture for metadata that I call the Meta Grid. I think technology vendors, consultancies and employees are caught in a way of working together, that creates expensive, redundant, and ineffective monoliths of metadata silos. It's nobody's fault - but I see a way out of this. This is the Meta Grid and it is the third wave of data decentralization: it stands on the shoulders of microservices and data mesh, that liberated operational data and analytical data respectively. the Meta Grid liberates metadata. I have previously published The Enterprise Data Catalog (O'Reilly, 2023), that established me as a globally recognized thought leader on data catalogs and enterprise data management. I consult for numerous companies, mostly large, European companies with significant technical complexity. I have a Ph.d. from the University of Copenhagen, in Library- and Information Science.
